Outer Banks Pet-Friendly Beaches & Rules

Most Outer Banks beaches are pet-friendly, but different towns have different regulations throughout the year. Some require leashes, and some don't. Always be sure to clean up after your dog. Our doggie bag dispenser can easily clip onto your leash and reads, "Thank you for keeping our beaches clean." You will find many pet waste bags and trashcans up and down the beach by each access for your convenience.  We also want to make sure your pet is safe.  So please keep in mind that not only does the sand get extremely hot on sunny days, the pavement does too. We recommend keeping the pups at home in the a/c (and shade) and only walking them before the heat of the day, or towards the end of the day when the sand and pavement have cooled off.   You can find out more about beach rules for each town here:

Outer Banks Dog-Friendly Parks & Places

The Outer Banks is a pet-friendly place for sure, and many attractions allow dogs as visitors. Here are some cool places to go with you dog!

Parks

Dowdy Park in Nags Head

Dowdy Park is just off of HWY 158 in Nags Head. It is a newer park with plenty of slides and obstacles for the kids and dogs! Around the park is a trail where you can walk your pet. So much fun!

Run Hill State Park in Nags Head

Run Hill State Park is a hidden treasure on the sound side in Nags Head. Make sure to bring your bowl and bag dispenser with you for this one, they don't have any water there. Once you get on the tall enough dunes, you can see the Wright Brothers Memorial and the sound! Your dog will have fun running around on the dunes!

Wright Brother's Memorial

The Wright Brothers Memorial in Kill Devil Hills allows you to bring your pet! They even have a water fountain for humans and dogs! Your dog will enjoy the smells, but be careful of the sand because it has prickers that can get stuck to your dog's paws. Keep them on the sidewalk or the grassy areas.

Restaurants

John's Drive-In in Kitty Hawk

At John's Drive-In on the beach road in Kitty Hawk, you can get a "pup cup" for your dog, which is a small cup of vanilla ice cream! This is nice on a hot day.

Mulligans in Nags Head at Historic Cottage Row

Mulligan's Grille in Historic Cottage Row

Tucked between the bypass and beach road, along historic cottage row with views of Jockey's Ridge and the beach. Mulligans has a doggy dining area outside for you and your furry friends, including menu options specially created for your pup.
