“A Shore Thing” is a charming Oceanfront 9 bedroom home with lots of Juniper and old beach charm located in Southern Shores. Relax on the Beach or spend some time in the Private Pool (16 x 30), Courtyard and Hot Tub. There is a large Screened Porch and Dune top deck w/ocean views.

A week at the (practically private beach

We have been coming to this house for years and we LOVE this old house; Practically private beach!!! Plenty of room for family! Small issue of Hot tub not heating this year...We assume the issue is with scheduling repairs post COVID...We are coming again! (And we hope again and again and again...)

We had a wonderful time in spite of the weather in the beginning of the week. The house was charming, but some black mold we aseen on a shower curtain and in other obvious places. Interior paint would help this house, too in many areas. Dishwasher did not work but maint came in a couple of days of our call.

I love this house!

This house is perfect for our family and for a beach vacation! It allows large groups to spend time together and have a great time right on the beach with a pool. In a great location as well, perfect!

a week in the winds

Vacations are used for many reasons, ours was meant to just get away from the mundane and get some family together and build some memories. Our goal was met and then some. While "A Shore Thing" is not the most modern house we have rented in the Outer Banks, it served it's purpose quite well. Some aspects of the house itself were not up to snuff, but most were not at fault of the owners. Bedrooms aplenty, kitchen well stocked, plenty of table capacity, and a lovely pool area (thank good ness for that as the beaches were under the No Swimming flag for most of the week). I do have to give a thumbs down to housekeeping. Our party actually found food remnants in some of the decorative vases, blue discoloring in the bathtub (it was removeable with some scrubbing but we refused to bathe our 2-yr old in that tub at all) in the bathroom immediately to the right upon entering the house, mold was evident in several of the bathrooms, the walls throughout the house need a new layer of paint as they all looked as though a recent storm had caused some water damage.

Maintenance responded extremely fast to our needs (light bulb in the fridge, missing dishrack runner in the dishwasher that prevented it's use).

Overall loved our week in the Outer Banks and the condition of the house really had no affect on it at all. We felt at home and had a great time.

Old Beach Farm House

Our family had a wonderful stay in this old house with lots of charm, plenty of space to spread out and have your own private time. The property is old and needs some cosmetic repairs, if you like new and updated this is not the place. My family loved it. The one problem we had was handled quickly and professionally, the staff was really helpful.

I love this house!

We come every year and we love this house so much. 9 bedrooms, great spaces for family, great pool, and amazing beach access. Love being in Southern Shores, easier to get to the house and close to many things.

It rained, but so what!

We are repeat customers for this house. For the first time this year everything wasn't spotless when we moved in, the roof leaked with high winds and driving rain. We blamed it on COVID and we went ahead and had a great time! We had a private beach, private pool and a hot tub to relax and enjoy our vacation. Our family only ate restaurant foods 2 times because we love to cook for each other. This house is great for the large family experience. its so large we invite our cousins!

Space was perfect for our family. Loved the location. It was so easy to get to the beach and go back and forth as needed. A lot of the time we pretty much had the beach to ourselves. Had a little issue with hot water and water pressure on the second floor. The one end of the house had really hot water and the kitchen and other side of house had lukewarm water at best. Bathrooms could use an update. We will be back next year!

Great budget for the area and what you get!

This was a great place to stay and not spend a fortune on. You get private ocean access, swimming pool, hot tub, and plenty of rooms throughout. It even has a in law suite! We went over the Memorial Day weekend and wish the pool was heated, but otherwise jump in the hot tub and relax!!!!

A Shore Thing is a sure bet!

Great Getaway from COVID-19! Private beach! Private Pool! Hot tub! We love to cook and just stayed at the house! Plenty of surf fishing, dolphin sightings, sand crabs, anoles (look like little lizards...) A nature class for the little ones!

Older home with lots of room!

This older home gave us all of the amenities we needed to create another wonderful beach vacation. The porch was awesome and the new outdoor furniture was exceptional. It was nice to be oceanfront, but the beach was further away then we were used too and you couldn’t see the ocean from the house unless you went to the upstairs deck. None of the bedrooms have TVs in them but honestly no one missed this.

A Shore Thing - Perfect for Our Family

This is our fifth year at this house - it has never let us down. What we like most about this house is that it drives everyone to spend time together - some homes are multiple floors with multiple rooms to spend time together and can "separate" people. This house gets everyone to spend time together at the pool, at the beach, or in the living/dining room. It's great.

Outer Banks - 2016

We had amazing time, as always, at this house. This is our fourth year at this house, and the second year where we booked two weeks. The house is great for us, we like having a lot of people (20+) and this house helps keep us together without feeling crowded. Other houses separate people, this one makes everyone feel together. The beach was amazing, pool is great, and the house is located nearby shopping, food, and Duck, which is great. We will be back again next year!

Review - A Shore Thing #36

We rented this house along with 2 other families. We loved the location and the set up of the house. The pool was a nice size and the screened in porch was great. The kitchen was well stocked. Our only complaint was the house was not cleaned well at all. The showers looked like they had not been cleaned at all. Under one of the beds there was empty water bottles and old food wrappers and under another bed was a used diabetic strip. I am not sure what cleaning company you use but they did not do a good job on this house.

The good- great location, great price in late May, fit 22 people comfortably eventhough the listing says 14. Quiet beach, close to restaurants and grocery, nice pool and hot tub, nice layout.

The bad- home exterior is in disrepair, smells musty inside, bathrooms need storage and updates, dining table needs replaces badly, low water pressure for outside shower.

If you want a budget home, on the ocean, with a pool and hot tub, this deal is hard to beat on the east coast. Just dont expect this 90 year old home to be perfect.

Excellent location, could use a spruce-up

The property description was accurate, but the photos must have been taken awhile ago. The exterior is looking a little shabby. The interior was in good shape except for a few annoyances, such as no door knobs on bedroom doors, only a sliding lock.
The location is excellent - far enough from the crowded part of the beach further south, but very close to grocery stores, etc. Everything inside the house worked fine (TV, appliances, etc.) and the layout was good - plenty of open space for the whole group (we had 17, including 2 small children) while still having privacy in the bedrooms.
The beach was just perfect and we ate at several good restaurants, as well as cooking 2 big meals at the house for the whole crew. The kitchen was well-equipped.
Overall, it was a great vacation.

The Porpoise of Vacation

We were able to vacation with many of our cousins at this large house. One happy moment was when my son ran back to the house to tell us the "dolphins were migrating." We ran down to our practically private beach and were treated to groups of 3 and 4 dolphins leaping and playing along the shore. Then my nephew told us they weren't dolphins they were porpoises! We love this place and hope to return year after year. Its how our cousins get acquainted.

A Shore Thing

This is the 6th year we've stayed at A Shore Thing. This older home is the perfect setup for our family. The setting is wonderful, and the pool is beautiful. The price is appropriate for a property of the size and location, and updating has occurred during the time we've been renting here. However, some things need doing. Carpets are very dirty, AC vents need cleaning, couches need replacing, a pane of glass has been missing for years, etc. The emergency repair we requested was taken care of quickly and efficiently.

Basic Older House but GREAT LOCATION!

We have stayed in this house for 13 years in a row now. It is old, never seems really clean, and we always have to buy pans, cookie sheets or other items for kitchen. We usually thoroughly bleach and clean the bathrooms on arrival too. However, the location is perfect. Right on the beach, close to shopping, and a real decent sized pool we can actually enjoy.
