As you prepare to get settled into your vacation home... we encourage you to take the following safety measures to ensure you and your loved ones can have a safe and enjoyable vacation on the Outer Banks in your Beach Realty rental home.
First, while visiting on the Outer Banks, we encourage you to sign up for text alerts from either of the counties you will be residing in, Dare, or Currituck. On our website, under the Guest Information & FAQ’s you will find links where you can learn more and quickly sign up for these alerts that contain information including severe weather, beach hazards, and more timely safety information.
Your rental home will likely not have a house telephone. If a situation results in the need to call 911, dispatch will not be able to pinpoint your exact location via your mobile device. To ensure emergency personnel can reach you in a timely manner, we strongly advise you to have the house address either memorized, written down, or stored on your mobile device.
Unexpected fires, especially in the evening when people are likely asleep, can lead to the inability to exit the home quickly. Having a plan in place will ensure everyone can get to safety as quickly as possible. While unpacking your belongings and settling in, make sure you make a mental note of the location of fire extinguishers and share this information with other guests.
Next, take a few minutes to go through the home and test smoke detectors. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are tested each season by Beach Realty inspectors; however, taking this extra precautionary step to ensure your and your family's safety is highly recommended.
Also, once sleeping arrangements have been determined, gather everyone staying in the home together to go over the closest exit locations from each room in the home. A quick rudimentary drawing is sufficient to accompany this discussion.
