There’s something satisfying about watching a custom home go from plans on paper to an actual structure you can walk through. Our latest Southern Shores project is doing exactly that, and every stage is bringing this custom Craftsman-style home a little closer to the finish line.
Designed with classic coastal character and plenty of thoughtful details, this home is a great example of how the construction process comes together one layer at a time.
From Framing to a Real Floor Plan
Once framing was underway, the vision for the home became much easier to see. Walls, rooms, windows and doors began defining the layout, turning an open construction site into recognizable living spaces.
This stage also sets the foundation for nearly everything that follows. Before the walls can be closed up, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems all need to be carefully routed throughout the home.
What Happens Behind the Walls
Some of the most important parts of a custom home are the things homeowners will rarely see once construction is complete.
With the plumbing, electrical and HVAC rough-ins in place, insulation was installed throughout the home. These behind-the-scenes steps help prepare the house for the next phase while supporting year-round comfort.
Exterior Details Begin to Take Shape
Outside, the Craftsman-style design is becoming more apparent as exterior materials and architectural details are installed.
HydroGap house wrap and NuCedar PVC shingles are being used on the dormers, combining weather protection with the look of traditional cedar shingles.
Custom-wrapped porch columns are another detail helping define the home’s exterior character. The columns are being wrapped in LP SmartSide for a clean, durable finish that complements the rest of the exterior.
Moving Inside
With insulation complete, drywall installation marked another major milestone. Suddenly, framed spaces began feeling much more like finished rooms.
The homeowners selected smooth walls rather than a textured knockdown finish, creating a clean and refined look throughout the interior.
Craftsmanship Continues Outdoors
The covered porch is receiving its own finishing details, including tongue-and-groove ceiling boards that add warmth, texture and another layer of coastal character to the outdoor living space.
Color, Character and the Next Phase
Exterior painting is now underway in Sherwin-Williams Alabaster SW 7008. The warm white finish is bringing the siding, rooflines and architectural details together and giving a much clearer picture of how the finished home will look.
Inside, cabinetry has arrived on site, signaling the start of another major finishing phase as the home moves closer to completion.
There is still plenty of work ahead, but this Southern Shores home is already showing how thoughtful planning, durable materials and custom details come together one phase at a time.
