Gertrude's Breakaway
This house was spacious and well laid out to accommodate our 4 families. Plenty of room for privacy, or for family gathering time. The owners provided everything needed for a great week at the beach. The elevator was a blessing to the seniors who did not want to do the steps.A Ping Pong table out by the pool would be a nice addition for the future.

Gertrude's Breakaway
House is great and well kept. It has everything you could possibly need. But we did have very little hot water in the showers even when only one or two people were showering. Furniture is old and well used but very comfortable. Would definently rent it again.

One of our favorite houses!
Our annual family vacation has seen a lot of different houses over the years but Gertrudes Breakaway has been our favorite so far! The house was very clean and well kept. Kitchen was fully stocked with tons of dishes, silverware and cookware. The pool area was excellent and fully enjoyed throughout the week. The short walk to the beach access was easy for all ages in our family and we loved that it was on a cul de sac for privacy. We enjoyed all the decks and little reading nooks in the house. We loved the bikes and beach supplies that were available for use. This house is so cozy and if we come back to the Outer Banks, this house will definitely be our first choice!

Fantastic Location and an Ideal Layout for multi family getaway
Our group of 5 families with kids ranging from 3 months to 17 had a wonderful experience. The kitchen, living area, pool/decks, and amenities were perfect and never had us feel cramped. The location was ideal with a short walk to the quiet and uncrowded beach, and we never had to worry about traffic or vehicles with the kids around. The built in Sonos multi room sound was a huge hit and there was space and something for absolutely everyone.

Great place for a large Family
Home was wonderful. We loved the stylish beach decor and cleanliness. Really appreciated the prompt responses and easy check-in as well! It was nice to unwind in the hot tub at the end of the night also. The community is beautiful. Enjoyed a bike ride through the neighborhood in the mornings.

Great escape!
This place is perfect for a friends getaway. We had seven couples and there more than enough room, bathrooms, etc. Pool is perfect if you want just hangout and the beach is just a short walk from the house. Highly recommend it!

Overall this is an outstanding home. The walk to the beach is very short, the next best thing to being beachfront. The home has plenty of space including nooks and dens and such for various purposes. The kitchen was well laid out and had plenty of tools and cookware. All the appliances/AC/washer and dryer/etc. worked as they should. The pool area was great. This property, by far, is one of the best in OBX. We have stayed here on numerous occasions, and it is always the property we come back to. The house is always clean and well-stocked. It leaves nothing to be desired. Can't say enough good things about Gertrude!

Beautiful House!
This house was the nicest we have ever stayed in and we have been going to the Outer Banks for a about 35 years. We had 20 people and it never felt crowded. The elevator was such a nice addition. The furniture and overall feel were so comfortable and classy. Proximity to the beach is fantastic. The dunes are doing great in this area but just beware that means there are about 25 steps to get down to the beach over the dune.

Grateful for Gertrude
We were happy to return, and will do so again, to a lovely home quite close to the beach. The large kitchen was great for a bunch of us to cook together. We were grateful for the enormous dining room table, to which we added a small white porch table, to seat all 16 of us together. Comfy furniture, liked the small seating areas too.

Great OBX experience!
Gertrudes Breakaway was the perfect home for our family! We had 16 people and with its 8 bedrooms and large upper level kitchen/dining/family room, everyone had more than enough space. The pool was a great way to enjoy the outdoors when we were ready to relax for the day. We enjoyed using the 4 bikes to head to Corolla for smoothies. and although we had our own chairs and boards with us, the home also came equipped with numerous beach chairs, boogie boards and sand toys. The location was fabulous...a short walk through the cul-de-sac to the walkway for the beach. Â And the beach was amazing! Â Never too crowded. Â We set up a sand volleyball net numerous times and enjoyed games with our fellow neighbors! Â We had a wonderful first trip to Corolla, and are looking forward to returning and staying at Gertrude's!!!

This is beautiful house in a great location. Very short walk to the beach and on a safe cut-de-sac. House had plenty of room and every amenity. Our only complaint was that several walls of house either need wiped down or repainted but the house did not appear dirty at all just may need some TLC

Absolutey Amazing Wedding House!
I just have to say this house was beyond our expectations. We pulled up and were amazed at how beautiful the house was. Each room was decorated impeccably, the beds were made, linens provided, the entire house was so clean. It was luxury at its finest! We had our wedding on the lawn and were able to use a pool as a cocktail space. Overall it was an unbelievable stay! I HIGHLY recommend the house to anyone who is having an event or just wants a luxury vacation!

Best vacation home yet!!
The first vacation with our entire family of six children, their spouses, and all 10 of our grandchildren. Â The layout of the house was perfect for us. Â We didn't even leave the house except to go to the beach which was closer than we thought it would be. Â It had all of the amenities that we could have asked for. Â Stocked with everything we could possibly need. Â I hated to leave this home that created so any precious memories for our family. Â The dining table was perfect for the Aults to have a meal together while the children either say at the bar or on the screened in porch at the picnic table. We have stayed at Gertrude's multiple times in the past and have always had a great time! Good times with family, and the best memories have been made here! It fits our family perfectly and we plan to return again next year!!! :)

The Best House in the OBX
Second year at this house. Family's favorite word to describe this house is "AWESOME".
The owners need to invest in a new gas grill. Existing grill very rusted out. other than that, everything was perfect!

Great vacation thanks to a great house!
We had a terrific time, and this house was all that we expected and more! Â This is now our second annual trip to the Outer Banks with our large family (Multiple families with kids) and we've found a place to keep coming back to. Â We didn't find other houses that had everything this house has to offer. Â Huge and spacious gathering area and kitchen made gathering great. Â The yard is an underemphasized component. Â It is well maintained and flat you can play all kinds of games in the yard barefoot - very different from other houses. Â If you are looking for a high-end house that has every check box and more covered, this is the one. Â Thanks Gertrude's Breakaway!! Â
