Description

This house -- situated on a large half acre lot in Section A of Ocean Sands -- offers all the popular amenities (elevator, flat-screen TV's, pool table) and is the perfect place all year long for family vacations and special events. This house was custom built by Beach Construction with high quality workmanship and beautiful natural wood trim and wainscoting.

This spacious, 5500 SF house with its open floor plan offers plenty of room for gathering together as well as enjoying private time in the many nooks and crannies (elevated tower and sunroom, mid-level landing and den) located throughout this well-designed house. This beautifully furnished, yet comfortable house can fill your vacation days and nights with relaxation and fun.

Enjoy spectacular ocean views and morning sunrises from every part of the top floor, including the large screen porch and deck area -- and enjoy evening sunsets from the elevated tower. There is easy beach access, with a walkway to the ocean being only a short walk (just 45 yards) across a quiet cul-de-sac. When you are ready for that all day at the beach, you will find beach chairs, umbrellas and beach cart for your convenience already at the house. If you decide to explore the area simply hop on a one of the bicycles at the house and enjoy the ride.

The 8 bedroom house includes a large well-equipped kitchen with stainless appliances, 42" refrigerator, double oven, granite counter-tops, a peninsula bar and an island; an up-to-date technology package (plasma TVs, surround sound satellite radio home theater in great room & media room and intercom); and a large (16' x 30') pool with a tiki bar, cabana bath, and outside speakers. There is even a full size pool table for those competition games among family and friends.

A very well-appointed house!

This house has all the amenities you could ask for. After 2 decades of renting houses in Corolla, I grew accustomed to making do with whatever supplies were hanging around the kitchen. This house puts all the other kitchens to shame! From actual margarita glasses to a fancy rice maker, I cannot think of anything the kitchen lacked.

The only thing which detracts from this house is that the hot tub is on the second floor and water from the tub leaks onto anyone standing by the outside bar. An unfortunate location, for sure.

Gertrudes Breakaway

This rental has everything you need while on vacation with a large group including 2 dishwashers, ovens, outdoor showers, pool floats, 2 different size crock pots, plastic wear for pool area. Sinks everywhere for washing. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Perfect location close to the beach. Go on Tuesday to get free bagels!
The house could have been a little cleaner. There were beer cans in the couches when we arrived, shoes from the previous renters were left, sand still on the stairs, floors were filthy, a couple stains on the sheets... we received our text that the place was ready a little before 4pm and when we got there around 5pm the cleaners were still there.

Fantastic Location and an Ideal Layout for multi family getaway

Our group of 5 families with kids ranging from 3 months to 17 had a wonderful experience. The kitchen, living area, pool/decks, and amenities were perfect and never had us feel cramped. The location was ideal with a short walk to the quiet and uncrowded beach, and we never had to worry about traffic or vehicles with the kids around. The built in Sonos multi room sound was a huge hit and there was space and something for absolutely everyone.

Home was wonderful. We loved the stylish beach decor and cleanliness. Really appreciated the prompt responses and easy check-in as well! It was nice to unwind in the hot tub at the end of the night also. The community is beautiful. Enjoyed a bike ride through the neighborhood in the mornings.

This place is perfect for a friends getaway. We had seven couples and there more than enough room, bathrooms, etc. Pool is perfect if you want just hangout and the beach is just a short walk from the house. Highly recommend it!

We had a very relaxing time. The house was in the perfect location and we only had to walk down the driveway and over the dune to get to the beach that was quieter than other parts of the outer banks. It was great with little kids who needed to go to the bathroom or get snacks to just run quickly back to the house if needed. We had enough space for everyone and the house was very clean. We loved the pool and hot tub and playing pool downstairs. The kitchen had every conceivable appliance you could imagine for cooking. We would definitely love to return to this house for future vacations.

Beautiful House!

This house was the nicest we have ever stayed in and we have been going to the Outer Banks for a about 35 years. We had 20 people and it never felt crowded. The elevator was such a nice addition. The furniture and overall feel were so comfortable and classy. Proximity to the beach is fantastic. The dunes are doing great in this area but just beware that means there are about 25 steps to get down to the beach over the dune.

We were happy to return, and will do so again, to a lovely home quite close to the beach. The large kitchen was great for a bunch of us to cook together. We were grateful for the enormous dining room table, to which we added a small white porch table, to seat all 16 of us together. Comfy furniture, liked the small seating areas too.

Great OBX experience!

Gertrude’s Breakaway was the perfect home for our family! We had 16 people and with its 8 bedrooms and large upper level kitchen/dining/family room, everyone had more than enough space. The pool was a great way to enjoy the outdoors when we were ready to relax for the day. We enjoyed using the 4 bikes to head to Corolla for smoothies. and although we had our own chairs and boards with us, the home also came equipped with numerous beach chairs, boogie boards and sand toys. The location was fabulous...a short walk through the cul-de-sac to the walkway for the beach. And the beach was amazing! Never too crowded. We set up a sand volleyball net numerous times and enjoyed games with our fellow neighbors! We had a wonderful first trip to Corolla, and are looking forward to returning and staying at Gertrude’s!!!

We had a wonderful week with our extended family at Gertrude's Breakaway. The house is very roomy with wonderful views from the 3rd deck. The kitchen/living room area provides a wonderful common area for all to hang out. Location to beach and grocery store and other shops very ideal, with great bike paths the whole way. Just a few things that need some improvement considering the price - upgrades to pool furniture/area, audio system (very complex to operate and pretty dated), decking looks like it's beginning to rot a bit, need pot holders for kitchen, and finally....please get a HAMMOCK!! All in all though, a really awesome week in a wonderful home. We will be returning next year.

This house was very roomy and handled our crew of 20 perfectly. The house was clean and had a well equipped kitchen (even a waffle maker)! The location to the beach was the best part though. Short walk and the beach was much less populated than other areas I have visited in the Outer Banks. I highly recommend this house/location!

This is a lovely home in a quiet cul de sac, far away from road noise, very close to the ocean, with a wide uncrowded beach and gentle surf, great for young children. Kitchen was very well equipped, we cooked great meals for 16, and very important to us-we were all able to sit at one long table together. Pool was warm and clean. Groceries, go-kart racing and fun shopping in Corolla not too far away. Will gladly return here next year.

This is beautiful house in a great location. Very short walk to the beach and on a safe cut-de-sac. House had plenty of room and every amenity. Our only complaint was that several walls of house either need wiped down or repainted but the house did not appear dirty at all just may need some TLC

Absolutey Amazing Wedding House!

I just have to say this house was beyond our expectations. We pulled up and were amazed at how beautiful the house was. Each room was decorated impeccably, the beds were made, linens provided, the entire house was so clean. It was luxury at its finest! We had our wedding on the lawn and were able to use a pool as a cocktail space. Overall it was an unbelievable stay! I HIGHLY recommend the house to anyone who is having an event or just wants a luxury vacation!

Best vacation home yet!!

The first vacation with our entire family of six children, their spouses, and all 10 of our grandchildren. The layout of the house was perfect for us. We didn't even leave the house except to go to the beach which was closer than we thought it would be. It had all of the amenities that we could have asked for. Stocked with everything we could possibly need. I hated to leave this home that created so any precious memories for our family. The dining table was perfect for the Aults to have a meal together while the children either say at the bar or on the screened in porch at the picnic table. The living room was spacious enough for us to all sit comfortably am have our talent show. Many memories were made by the pool. Best house that we have rented by far

We have stayed at Gertrude's multiple times in the past and have always had a great time! Good times with family, and the best memories have been made here! It fits our family perfectly and we plan to return again next year!!! :)

The Best House in the OBX

Second year at this house. Family's favorite word to describe this house is "AWESOME".

The owners need to invest in a new gas grill. Existing grill very rusted out. other than that, everything was perfect!

Great vacation thanks to a great house!

We had a terrific time, and this house was all that we expected and more! This is now our second annual trip to the Outer Banks with our large family (Multiple families with kids) and we've found a place to keep coming back to. We didn't find other houses that had everything this house has to offer. Huge and spacious gathering area and kitchen made gathering great. The yard is an underemphasized component. It is well maintained and flat you can play all kinds of games in the yard barefoot - very different from other houses. If you are looking for a high-end house that has every check box and more covered, this is the one. Thanks Gertrude's Breakaway!!

Great experience. Any request of Beach Realty was handled professionally and promptly. Everything you need for a large family vacation plus many extras, including bicycles in good condition!
