With National Ice Cream Day just around the corner, the Outer Banks is prepared to serve you the best sweet treats the beach has to offer. Our staff put their heads together and voted on their favorite ice cream shops for you! In no particular order, here are our top Outer Banks ice cream picks. 

OBX Frozen Yogurt in Southern Shores

This local frozen yogurt shop rotates eight flavors of frozen yogurt and gelato. They always have a dairy-free and vegan option, along with a no sugar added flavor. Not to mention the 60 premium toppings they offer! They also sell old fashioned soda, dippin' dots ice cream, froyo pies, egg-free cookie dough. shakes, floats, and candy! Yum! Our favorite is their ice cream cookie sandwiches!

Surfin' Spoon in Nags Head

This local ice cream shop is owned by professional surfer, Jesse Hines, and his wife, Whitney. They offer 10 frozen yogurt flavors every day with live active cultures. They always have a vegan sorbet option too. Our favorite is the caramel sea salt pretzel flavor.

Scoops in Nags Head



Scoops

Scoop's has two locations, one in Kill Devil Hills, and the other in Nags Head at Kitty Hawk Kites. They offer 28 flavors of homemade ice cream, which can be made into delicious shakes and sundaes. They also have yummy waffle cones as pictured above.

This ice cream shop is a unique one because they offer coffee as well, and they aren't afraid to mix them together! Located on Colington Island in Kill Devil Hills this place has beautiful views of the sound and awesome places for you to sit outside and enjoy your coffee, ice cream, or both! They offer Hersey and homemade ice cream flavors. Our favorite is the Riptide, a vanilla milkshake made with a shot of espresso. They also offer daily specials, like waffle taco Tuesday! The Spot doesn't just offer ice cream, but also acai and pitaya bowls and fruit smoothies. It's perfect for those looking for vegan options, and those who want a healthier option. The old Nags Head style building is hard to miss right off of HWY 158.

Booty Treat's ice cream

Booty Treat's ice cream and shaved ice has two locations in Nags Head. Not only do they offer amazing ice cream cookie sandwiches, but they also have over 175 possible combinations of shaved ice. The possibilities are endless!
